What to Eat to Lose Weight

In order to lose weight, what type of foods should you eat? Most people will say to stick with fruits, vegetables, lean meats, low fat foods, low carb foods and so on.

If you eat all of the “right” foods, you should lose weight, right? Well… that depends.

The truth is, whether you lose weight or gain weight comes down to your calorie intake. Putting calories burned on a daily basis aside, if you consume more calories than you need to maintain your weight, you’re going to gain weight. If you consume less than the amount needed to maintain your weight, you’ll lose weight.

When you add physical activity into the mix, you burn more calories, resulting in faster weight lose. This also means you can eat a little bit more.

Losing weight comes down to math. You could eat healthy foods but if you eat too many calories, you’ll gain weight. You could eat fried chicken and fries all day and actually LOSE weight as long as you don’t go over the amount of calories required for you to maintain your weight.

Most fatty foods are high in calories which is why it doesn’t take eating much of it to go over your calorie threshold.

You can eat whatever you want in order to lose weight, just make sure you don’t eat too many calories.

How much is too much? If you’ve been maintaining your current weight, simply record the amount of calories you consume on a typical day and you’ll find out.

Another method to get a rough estimate of your maintenance calories is to multiply your current weight by 15 and up to 18 if you’re super active.

There you have it. To lose weight, eat what you want, just not too much. Of course, you could be skinny and be unhealthy so it’s a good idea to stick with healthy foods as much as possible.
